Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent honors show draws close, there’s always a demand to include fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers function at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
